My family contracted Lyme Disease and some nasty co-infections on our farm here in Randolph County. I had never felt comfortable putting DEET products on my children, not knowing what the long term effects would be.
So when I learned I had a tick borne infection, I went on a national Lyme Disease forum, and asked what kind of repellents folks used. I really liked the sound of BiteBlocker® the best, so I went to your website and saw you were out of Pittsboro!
We have been using it on the kids, big and small for 2 or 3 years. I have 2 bottles on the porch, and remind them every morning to use it. My kids like it because it keeps all kinds of bugs from them. I have not seen a tick on them since using it, and the only complaints about bug bites is when my sister sent me another product, which went into the trash. A bug bite around here is a big deal, but because of Bite Blocker, it has been a long time since anybody got one!
True confession - I even sprayed a pole outside that was covered with a trail of ants, and no ants showed up for a while.

This product has proven to be the only thing that has really helped my bug-sensitive mare. The first summer she hasn’t been completely miserable with itching. Bless you! And I love the fact that I can use it without worrying about all the chemicals I’m absorbing while applying it to her. Our whole outdoor-loving family has converted to your people products and tossed out the Deet.

About 3-4 years ago I bought your product in an Ace hardware store in Pinckney, Michigan. I have very little of this product left, it has been worth every dime that I paid for it. It is the one product that really works. We have a house on Lake St. Clair, in Canada and the black biting flies can be torture. But I pulled out your "biteblocker" product, and gave some to my neighbors and they just rave about the stuff. It works! I just can't say enough about it. You know, I wish you had it in handy wipes, I would probably do my door wall screens and window screens with it, it is just an excellent product. We just apply a little bit and no bugs bother us!
I would like to know where I can buy this off the shelf in the United States and Canada. We have a Marina near our house, and I would like to take her a sample of this product and see if it is something that she would like to carry in her general store, not to mention, I would love to get more of it and hopefully my friends can find it in Canada. Can you help me with this??
Again thanks for making a product that does exactly what it says it does.....Blocks bug bites!!!!! - K. Boulet, Westland, Michigan
Hi. I bought a case of your product last summer before embarking on a month-long canoe trip in the Arctic. Although I wanted to avoid the use of DEET, I took some along just in case. In spite of mosquitoes and black flies like I couldn't even imagine, I never felt it necessary to use any of my emergency supply of DEET. The four members of our group all felt that BiteBlocker was a major success. I will continue to use it personally and have recommended that the outfitter, Black Feather, carry it for their clients use on their trips. I was very impressed that this product exceeded my expectations. I expect that, with West Nile Virus, BiteBlocker could (or should) become a household word. Thank you!
BiteBlocker is a completely harmless formula which I field tested in Alaska last summer with GREAT success. It also went through trials at the University of Guelph in Canada. I wrote to the guy who did the tests, and he gave me the rundown a while back. It worked as well as DEET for 2 hours or so, and better than "skin so soft" and certainly better than citronella.
The active ingredient is soybean oil, and a few plant extracts. Harmless to you (unlike DEET which is awful for you) and lasts about 2 hours. Re-apply whenever you want. It doesn't smell nearly as bad as DEET. Keep it out of your eyes, and off your forehead if you're going to be sweating, and it stings a bit on broken/chapped skin. It works!
Fradin says he found one new herbal product in his research, that seems to be somewhat effective in repelling mosquitoes. BiteBlocker contains soybean oil as its main active ingredient, along with some geranium oil and coconut oil. It has been available in Europe for several years and was released in the United States last year. Scientists don't quite understand how it works, but somehow it seems to jam the receptors on mosquitoes' antennae that allow them to zero in on victims.
The EPA has not registered soybean oil as an insect repellent because it is derived from food-grade soybeans and is considered safe.
I do not want to use DEET products any more, and just read about the
efficacy of BiteBlocker. Can you tell me where i can buy the cream and
spray in the Louisville, KY area? My zip code is 40205.

-Sharon Strohbeck, Manassas, VA (June 30, 2003)
