CDC Chooses BiteBlocker as a Natural Deet Alternative
Why CDC identifies the Soy power of BiteBlocker as a PROVEN Natural DEET Alternative;However, CDC does not mention BiteBlocker as a means of protection from Disease;
People have inquired why BiteBlocker is not identified on the CDC website as a protection from mosquito borne diseases. The answer is that BiteBlocker is made from all natural and safe ingredients listed by the EPA as minimum risk and is therefore exempt from EPA Federal registration. Since it is exempt BiteBlocker cannot be recommended as a Disease Prevention by CDC; however, BiteBlocker is registered with State Regulators and the Efficacy studies are scientifically documented and well established over the last eight years to be as effective as lower concentrations of DEET and the reason why the CDC recommends the Soy Power of BiteBlocker as a DEET Alternative on the subject of Alternative mosquito repellents. BiteBlocker has been proven to be as effective as low concentrations of DEET by the same studies proving Picaridin (KBR3023) and PMB from Eucalyptus but is TRULY ALL-NATURAL.
An Excerpt to the CDC Website (from 5/12/05) is below as well as a statement how the SOY power in BiteBlocker "works":
Non-DEET Repellents
Some non-DEET repellent products which are intended to be applied directly to skin may also provide limited protection from mosquito bites. However, because studies have suggested that other products do not offer the same level of protection, or that protection does not last as long as the protection provided by products containing DEET, you should use DEET if possible.
A soybean-oil-based product has been shown to provide protection for a period of time similar to a product with a low concentration of DEET (4.75%) (Fradin and Day, 2002: http://content.nejm.org/cgi/content/full/347/1/13).
Use this product instead of DEET if:
- You have had allergic skin reactions in the past to products containing DEET.
- If you have irritated, sunburned, bruised, or broken skin.
- If you have a skin condition such as skin cancer, dermatitis, acne, eczema, or psoriasis.
If you are outdoors for periods longer than 90 minutes, or if you start being bitten by mosquitoes, you will need to re-apply this product to continue to provide protection against mosquito bites.

HOW BiteBlocker "works"
BiteBlocker is a patented blend, soy alone may not work unless it is in the patented blend or according to our new refinement process that we have patent pending and subject to a current EPA registration. Canada’s equivalent of the EPA known as the PMRA has proven that the Soy in BiteBlocker is the main active.
The product is formulated under a patented blend so that the soy fatty acids are made into a volatile active to work with the lipids found on human and animal skin to shield the subject from the sensing abilities of insects to hone into a meal. A 2% Soy mixture under the patented blend can be formulated to be as effective as 15% DEET.
